Fair Trade Principles

Upcycled Styles is a retailer of Hmong inspired purses, accessories, clothing, shoes and jewelry. We are located right in the heart of Chiang Mai, the capital of Northern Thailand. We have been in business for over 4 years wholesaling and our commitment to the people of Thailand and the generosity of our customers is what has made this company a success story.

We fell in love with Hmong textiles the moment we laid our eyes on them! This ancient indigenous group has expressed their Faith, belief and way of life into each piece of fabric, making each item in our collection come to life with an amazing history behind it!

Who are the Hmong? They are an Asian Ethnic Community from the mountain regions of China, Vietnam, Laos and Thailand. Originally from the South of China, the Hmong have been forcibly relocated throughout the centuries due to political unrest, discrimination, and in search of economic stability. Today, many Hmong are located in the remote forests and mountainous terrain of the northern Thai region and are well integrated into Thai society. They are rich in culture, family, and art and are distinctive in their fabric patterns and handicraft.

Upcycle Styles helps our Hill Tribe Artisan Partners (most of whom are women) produce eco-friendly products and makes them available to our customers all over the world. All levels of our production are environmentally friendly and promote safe working conditions and a living wage as part of our commitment to Fair Trade. We currently work with over 100 Artisans in and around Chiang Mai and are working hard to replicate this model in Mexico in the coming year. We believe in preserving indigenous culture, sustainability and Fair Trade. We believe that it is important to know where the products we buy come from, and with that information we can transform the world into the better place we want it to be!
